Chance of Sultry Clouds

Music that will blow your damn noodle off your shoulders. As the French might say: "BOUMMMM"Ever since dropping my jaw over Remain's Concrete EP, I have really become an avid listener of all things Matt Walsha wicked Techno/House producer and DJ from the UK - - including his label Clouded Vision.  Walsh has been active as a DJ since the 90's and the man has put together a mean list of productions, both as a solo artist and as one half of duo Clouded Vision with long time friend Steve Cook.  The hard working producer has releases on a number of respected labels such as Turbo, This Is Music, Mute, Meant Records, Southern Fried and XL Recordings to name a few.

One of his latest releases comes as the 10th release on French imprint Meant Records owned by producer Remain.  The Room 101 EP by his duo Clouded Vision fits well with the fresh fusion of techno/electronica/indie-dance sounds that are pushed by the French label.  The EP includes two original tracks, which are remixed by the likes of Remote, Darabi and People Get Real.  Listen to these samples taken from Matt's soundcloud and see what you think - - I am a big fan of the Remote remix of "Room 101" personally. Loving how that thicker than molasses bass backs the tune up in the heaviest of ways. Gnarly.

Clouded Vision - Room 101 EP (MEANT010) on Meant Records.

A mere three days ago, Matt's eponymously named imprint Clouded Vision released a brand spanking new bundle of insanely hot fire called the Complex Situation EP by Spains Sishi Rosch.  The Original mix simply blew my damn mind out of its earthly capsule, and I have not stopped pumping this jam since, occasionally taking a moment to play the second -- also strong -- original on the release "Too Much Cake".  I did not know much of Sishi Rosch before hearing this release, but shit this No.19 and Get The Curse artist has got some grease in his mother fucking gears.  Listen to the entire release and try telling me that Clouded Vision did not release an earth-shattering monster with this one.  Holy fuck.  Aural murder people. Bloody murder.

Also make sure you check out Rosch's label Digital Delight and his new label, Sultry Vibes, with co-producer Diego Moreno.  Hot Gangsta Disco up in this bitch!

Tipping Point

Wow, last night Max the Fax and I met up with friends Jeff Breen  and the boys from Room303 - - TJ  and B-Rad - - at an afterhours which Breen is a resident at.  The night was super fun, and the boys even called the Deep North up to the booth to play out a few tunes.   These guys are standup fellows and we have nothing but love for them.

TJ dropped Alex Niggeman's new banger on Tsuba Records called Point of No Return.  Big props are going out to Alex Niggman and John Rydell - - who features on the track - - for this absolute scorcher of a tune, which I will admit has made me more excited than any release in my recent memory.  Those damn rattling wood blocks that float above that deep, driving bass are making me go fucking bananas.

Thoughtless Music Party Tonight

THANK GOD IT'S FRIDAY.

It's lunchtime for most of us here in Toronto, and everybody knows that lunch break is the second best part of the day, next to going home.  Although gloomy, raining and generally sour weather might throw an otherwise perfect lunch off the tracks, we have so many reasons to be happy.  One of those reasons is that tonight Noah Pred and his crew at Thoughtless Music are back at Li'ly Lounge and are ready to get down at College Street's basement bunker of bass.

Tonight the imprint is hosting it's monthlyThoughtless Showcase jig, which showcases some exceptional international talent and always backs up the imported artillery with big, bad, guns from home.  All the way from Los Angeles, California, comes [a]pendics.shuffle, ready to unleash a live set of minimal and techno that some say will blow your mind to bits of amazing. With releases on Thoughtless, Culprit, Adjunct and Mo's Ferry, among others, it's easy to imagine what all the hype surrounding this man is about.  Supporting from the French territory of Quebec is Vincent Lemieuxwho has released on coveted Perlon and is a long time fixture in Montreals EDM scene as well as a programmer for the famous Mutek festival.

The two out of towners will be supported by Arthur Oskan - - possibly the hottest artist to release on the imprint this year after his highly acclaimed A Little More Than Everything LP - - and our homeboy Zaid Edghaim of the Hushlamb camp.

Check out the Facebook Event!

 SPECIAL DEEP NORTH OFFER:

Thoughtless has agreed to give out a FREE Arthur Oskan CD to the first ten people who buy their ticket online through The Deep North.  To get your free CD, buy your $10 ticket here and make sure you put "referred by the Deep North" in the notes or address section right before you checkout.  Then when you arrive at the venue, the CD will be given to you when you enter.  Thanks Thoughtless!

Niederflur!

I was pretty stoked when I found this EP from Niederflur last night, called Teleservice. Dating back to 2001, Niederflur have released tons of great music and these three tracks are no different. This is some really cool techno/tech house but I'll admit that I'm not completely sold on "Vulkanistaor." Regardless, it's pretty sick.

Although the duo has been loyal to M_nus for their first eight or so years, they turned to other labels starting with 2009's Lumen, released on Archipel. This is their first release with Snork Enterprises.

DRM017: Matthus Raman

It took me a while to finally post this one, so I would like to apologize to my good friend and french connect, producer Matthus Raman.  It's incredible how busy things have become here at the Deep North's HQ.  Anyways, a few weeks ago I postedvery strong remix Matthus did of the track Concrete by another French producer, Remain - - who, by the way, has an upcoming EP release on My Favourite Robot Records, the party for which we will be hosting on October 21st here in Toronto.  In case you missed my post on this excellent remix, here it is again.

Remain - Concrete (Matthus Raman Remix) >>> [BUY IT]

Shortly after posting this remix, Matthus and I came into contact with one another, and it turns out that the upcoming techno producer and Family N.A.M.E. resident is an extremely nice guy.  Without hesitation, Matthus said he would be happy to make us an exclusive mix.  Well, he was he was not lying , because the mix was done within a couple of days.  Matthus has released a few dark and dirty remixes under the Family Name imprint, including one of Elagua's track Cambia La Vidaand one of Clement Meyer's tune Piece by Piece - - both which can be heard below through YouTube.

Elagua - Cambia La Vida (Matthus Raman Remix) >>> [BUY IT]

Clement Meyer - Piece by Piece (Matthus Raman Remix) >>> [BUY IT]

Before I post the exclusive mix, I wanted to share some interesting information I got from Raman a week ago.  Along with Loran Valdek and Andreas Tome, Raman has plans to launch his own label called Konflict Records in early 2012.  The label will focus on pushing sounds that reflect the feelings and emotions that arise when people experience internal conflict - - a day-to-day occurance for not only him, but all of us.  Now that is deep!

Enough with the chitter-chatter, let's get at-her. The tracklist can be found in the "lyrics" section of the ID3 tags on iTunes.

Motor Musk

Hey everyone. I know its been a while since i last posted and all but I am back and have no time to waste making excuses because that is just nonsense.  Let's get down to buisness.

The first tune up my sleeve is a joint from a young and exceptionally talented man who I have had the pleasure of seeing live no less than twice!. Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, I present to you KMFH (or as you may know him Kyle Hall).

Here is one of my favourite tunes from Hall.  It comes off of his 2010 Must See EP on Third Ear.  The track is called Ghosten and may have one of the chunkiest and most effectively staggered beats of all time. Drift off to d-d-d-dreamland!

Kyle Hall - Ghosten >>> [BUY]

The second track i want to share is i little more driving.  I just found this one last week and its been on repeat ever since. A truly beutiful techno masterpiece, this one is by the skilled analog crafstmen Skudge and is called Surplus.

Skudge - Surplus (Original Mix) >>> [BUY]

Thanks for having me back, and sorry it took me so long to get something up here, at the Deep North!

DRM 016: DJ FAME

Photograph courteousy of Merry Sommers, Click the image to visit her site.

It's a hot, sunny friday afternoon here in Toronto and you would not even think that the Autumn season is before us, because it feels like this amazing summer will truely be an endless one.  As if the sweet weather was not enough to keep up this ultra-dope high, we are going to inject this day with some more party-power: an exclusive mix from DJ Fame, who will be coming up from Brooklyn to party with us at Bunda Lounge on Saturday night - - the first official return for the Dubsided artist since he brought down the house at the now-defunct Circa a couple of years ago.

Anyhow, DJ Fame is gonna be doing something a bit different for this gig - - and this mix - - than most are accustomed to.  We are stoked to announce that DRM 016 is super special in that our homie has embraced the chance to go deeper and play some stuff he loves but doesn't get to run on the regs: deep house, nu-disco and techno.  Definitely something we are stoked on!!

Check out this super sweet exclusive from the New York native, and come out on Saturday if you're in the area!

DRM 015: Driip

One more time, we are here.  Here at the mouth of the DRM machine, waiting to see what new and exclusive mix we will recieve from the belly of the beast.  I am stoked to share this next DRM mix with you guys because it comes from a young and talented DJ/producer known by two names: his formal, birth name, Brandon Sprouse, and his pseudonym "driip"which I happen to like quite a bit - - as it could mean a number of weird things, especially after delving into his dark, dirty and grimey taste in music.

Sprouse has often said that his signature sound is no-nonsense techno, the kind that keeps your head pointed downward in a dark room, freeing your mind from surrounding distractions while focusing it on the sounds that surround.  Dark, bass heavy techno music is the passion of this up and coming Toronto Native, and you can expect to hear a lot more about the design student's ascent through the techno ranks - - especially if he remains focused on his plan to move to Berlin in order to pursue a full blown career in music.

Brandon can be found posting as a contributing member of the active Toronto blog-squad ElectroTO.  Of course, that is when he is not producing sick music or embedding hot techno tracks on facebook for me to freak out over.  Now that you have heard a couple of his productions, head on down to download his wonderfully crafted Deeply Rooted Mixtape for our blog.  The tracklist can be found in the "lyrics" section of the Mp3's id3 tags.

Let 'er driiiiiiiiiiiiiip !!
