Up For The Tasc

This was one of the images that came up after typing "TASC" in google. Makes sense.

Homie Tasc just carpet bombed the shit out of my inbox with a heavy battery of sultry greasebombs, leaving nothing but a crater filled with smoldering digital email debris.  His podcast for bass blog Channel One floats like a butterfly but stings like a scorpion on PCP.  The track list is as gnarly as the bunions on a witches big toe.  The list is so proper that even a librarian would feel uncomfortable for remaining still for too long.  Heavy business.  The straight business. Get that into your earholes, immediately.

In case you missed it the first time around, here is a reload.  Tasc did an exclusive mix for The Deep North's Deeply Rooted Mixtape Series back in August, which I will include here as well.  It was one of our most popular mixes to date, so give it a twirl too.   Before I go, just remember one thing kids: you can see all of the previous DRM submissions at any time by visiting the Deeply Rooted Mixtape page on the right hand side of the blog.  Download em, burn em, and make your workday so much better.

NOW DANCE!

Big Beats from Britt

I need to be up front about something before we go any further: I have no idea where I got this. It came on my iTunes and I fell in love but I can't for the life of me remember where it came from. Anyway, The Light from King Britt presents Firefly is all sorts of fun.

King Britt is a house veteran to say the least. He started his career over 20 years ago and has grown into one of the biggest producers in the world. He's worked with dozens of artists and even worked with Josh Wink to start Ovum way back in the day. Started in 2002, Firefly is just one of King Britt's many monikers. This is his latest effort, released on Soundz.

Take a listen or buy it on Beatport. I'll post the Soundcloud link once it's up.

In other news, Danny Daze (... my favourite producer) created a mix for Get the Curse back in August and it was yesterday's mix of the day on Resident Advisor. Exciting times! Check it out here if you haven't already. Again, I'll post the track once Soundcloud is up and running again

Tipping Point

Wow, last night Max the Fax and I met up with friends Jeff Breen  and the boys from Room303 - - TJ  and B-Rad - - at an afterhours which Breen is a resident at.  The night was super fun, and the boys even called the Deep North up to the booth to play out a few tunes.   These guys are standup fellows and we have nothing but love for them.

TJ dropped Alex Niggeman's new banger on Tsuba Records called Point of No Return.  Big props are going out to Alex Niggman and John Rydell - - who features on the track - - for this absolute scorcher of a tune, which I will admit has made me more excited than any release in my recent memory.  Those damn rattling wood blocks that float above that deep, driving bass are making me go fucking bananas.

ABSOLUTE MURDER.  Thanks for tipping us off to this one TJ!!

Niederflur!

I was pretty stoked when I found this EP from Niederflur last night, called Teleservice. Dating back to 2001, Niederflur have released tons of great music and these three tracks are no different. This is some really cool techno/tech house but I'll admit that I'm not completely sold on "Vulkanistaor." Regardless, it's pretty sick.

Although the duo has been loyal to M_nus for their first eight or so years, they turned to other labels starting with 2009's Lumen, released on Archipel. This is their first release with Snork Enterprises.

DRM017: Matthus Raman

It took me a while to finally post this one, so I would like to apologize to my good friend and french connect, producer Matthus Raman.  It's incredible how busy things have become here at the Deep North's HQ.  Anyways, a few weeks ago I postedvery strong remix Matthus did of the track Concrete by another French producer, Remain - - who, by the way, has an upcoming EP release on My Favourite Robot Records, the party for which we will be hosting on October 21st here in Toronto.  In case you missed my post on this excellent remix, here it is again.

Remain - Concrete (Matthus Raman Remix) >>> [BUY IT]

Shortly after posting this remix, Matthus and I came into contact with one another, and it turns out that the upcoming techno producer and Family N.A.M.E. resident is an extremely nice guy.  Without hesitation, Matthus said he would be happy to make us an exclusive mix.  Well, he was he was not lying , because the mix was done within a couple of days.  Matthus has released a few dark and dirty remixes under the Family Name imprint, including one of Elagua's track Cambia La Vidaand one of Clement Meyer's tune Piece by Piece - - both which can be heard below through YouTube.

Elagua - Cambia La Vida (Matthus Raman Remix) >>> [BUY IT]

Clement Meyer - Piece by Piece (Matthus Raman Remix) >>> [BUY IT]

Before I post the exclusive mix, I wanted to share some interesting information I got from Raman a week ago.  Along with Loran Valdek and Andreas Tome, Raman has plans to launch his own label called Konflict Records in early 2012.  The label will focus on pushing sounds that reflect the feelings and emotions that arise when people experience internal conflict - - a day-to-day occurance for not only him, but all of us.  Now that is deep!

Enough with the chitter-chatter, let's get at-her. The tracklist can be found in the "lyrics" section of the ID3 tags on iTunes.

DRM 016: DJ FAME

Photograph courteousy of Merry Sommers, Click the image to visit her site.

It's a hot, sunny friday afternoon here in Toronto and you would not even think that the Autumn season is before us, because it feels like this amazing summer will truely be an endless one.  As if the sweet weather was not enough to keep up this ultra-dope high, we are going to inject this day with some more party-power: an exclusive mix from DJ Fame, who will be coming up from Brooklyn to party with us at Bunda Lounge on Saturday night - - the first official return for the Dubsided artist since he brought down the house at the now-defunct Circa a couple of years ago.

Anyhow, DJ Fame is gonna be doing something a bit different for this gig - - and this mix - - than most are accustomed to.  We are stoked to announce that DRM 016 is super special in that our homie has embraced the chance to go deeper and play some stuff he loves but doesn't get to run on the regs: deep house, nu-disco and techno.  Definitely something we are stoked on!!

Check out this super sweet exclusive from the New York native, and come out on Saturday if you're in the area!

Grassitaliano: M&J Tribute Mix

Picture by Merry Somers, All Rights Reserved // Click Picture For More On Merry

This mix comes from our Italian friend Marco Grassi, a DJ, Producer and Promoter from Livorno who is an avid follower of all things Deep and Northern.  Marco has posted a couple of mixes on our blog's fan page, and I decided it was a good time to give one of them a feature here on the blog.

This mix is a b2b set between Marco and Jody, two close DJ friends who made this 2+ hour mix for their friend "SV", who unfortunately passed away recently.  This hefty mix should help you get through the day, as it includes all sorts of hot deep house and tech house tunes that will recieve a nod of approval from many, if not most, of those reading this.  The Deep North salutes the life of Marco & Jody's dear friend and hopes that "SV" is hearing this tribute mix wherever they may be.  God bless.

You Can Call Me Sleazy

I am Bea Sleazy, the newest contributor for The Deep North and I happen to enjoy house music. It's something I came to terms with long ago and am now forcing upon everyone else by way of the internet. Thank god for the internet. Anyway, I tend to lean towards deep or tech house with a little disco or soul here and there. Lately I’ve been pretty mired in getting ready for Frosh Week and the start of school but I managed to find a couple cool tracks to show off.

First up, I’ve got the track that put UK producer Jon Rundell on the electronic dance music map earlier this summer. It’s new, it’s exciting, it’s tech house and who doesn’t like tech house? But seriously, this guy makes cool music and you should definitely check out this song.

Jon Rundell - Knick Knack (Original Mix) by RichR

This is more awesome tech house, this time from Italian trio Macromism. This track was released in late July on Rawthentic Music and I’m really feeling the vocals.

Macromism - Groover [SC-EDIT] by Rawthentic Music

I love deep house. There’s something about deep, soulful music like this that’s hard to dislike. This is the first track that Noir & Haze put out together and comes from Noir’s own label, Noir Music. It’s the first single from Noir’s upcoming album, due out in early 2012

Noir & Haze - Around (Solomun Vox Remix) by irina

This fine number by Germany’s Agaric is so feel-good it almost hurts. It’s a wee bit drawn out for my taste but it’s great anyway. It’s fairly down-tempo and mellow but just fast and soulful enough to make a body boogie.

Agaric - No Way I Know I Feel (Axel Boman remix) - Ovum Recordings by axelboman

That's all I've got for now. Hope to see you all this Saturday at Bunda for DJ Fame!

Joey, Jozif and Kevin

I have three tracks here which are worth mentioning, not because they are all fresh on the market, but because I have played them so much that I almost feel obliged to.

The first track I will mention is the original mix of Kings Cross by Joey Jumble and Felipe Cruz, released in the fall of 2009 on PM Music.  This tech house track would be perfect for a big room party with fat, rounded bass and powerful kicks - - definitly one for those all hopped up and ready to jump around.  Far from deep, this one may actually be very annoying to some of you, and even slightly dangerous for anyone suffering from ADD.  Let's risk it.

Next up is one from the UK's Kevin McKaya bad ass house producer who is also the founder of the Glasgow Underground imprint.  His track Propaganda is possibly the most standout track from his Club World EP, released in the first quarter of 2011 on Glasgow Underground.  This house track is a banger which will pound the living crap out of your head, and likely cause your downstairs neighbours to bang against their cieling in hopes that you might actually keep it down.  Prediction.  True?

Finally, the third track I wish to share comes from the deeper end of the spectrum unlike the previous two tunes and was one of the tracks recommended on Juno's February Tech/Minimal chart - - which is excactly where I heard this InFine release first.  The song is called Sunrise by England's Jozifa name which has been getting more and more attention over the past year.  Read the review of Jozif's Sunrise EP (4/5) on Resident Advisor - - and for those really digging the tune, make sure you peep Jozif's podcast for Resident Advisor, RA.235, which is packed full of exclusive edits and remixes.
