Tazmanian Orgy

Tazz takes on techno from many angles

On an all too sunny Sunday afternoon some Late & Deep induced insomnia had me seeking something deep and moving, just a few minutes in the shop it was New Kanada to the rescue with some nice Canadian content.

The artwork and title of Tazz's Cosmic Sex EP had me imagining myself losing my wallet in a brothel on Mars, which I suppose is kind of irrelevant as I doubt they’d accept Canadian dollars anyway.

I got into New Kanada through the The Mole, Seuil and BSU, so was looking forward to something evolving.  It delivers, on top of inducing what could be mistaken for time travel the title track Cosmic Sex proves a weird and wicked acid stomper.  It’s complemented nicely by Mermen And Mermaids, equally banging with its array of nicely done hats and spooky vocal.  Wanderer completes it nicely with its wavy synths, arpeggiated organ and piano stabs.  Do pick up Cosmic Sex, but wear cosmic protection.

While on Tazz, his latest on Tsuba, Adventures Of Tazz, and corresponding remixes, proves an adventure indeed.  The ten track LP seems to cover Tazz’s evident score of directions whether it be deep, dubbed or in a dream powered by skipping hats and dreamy synths, I’m really digging.  Each of the deep techno and electronica productions are unorthodox and compelling.  See for yourself...

Murr & Rosina: Killin shit like it's nobody's business.

I met some super special people today with Max the Fax to discuss a future collaboration for a late night event.  What made this meeting even more special is that both Max and I have been big fans of these two for quite some time, but only recently connected with them in person after some dialogue over the infamous Facebook.

The two people I speak of are Murr and Rosina, a Canadian couple who make wonderful music that we have been following for quite some time - - yet didn't even know were from our hometown of Toronto until quite recently.  I was a huge fan of their 2008 release "Fables and Fairytales" on Kuji Records which later was modified with Adam Marshall and did very well in 2009 with remixes by Deniz Kurtel through Crosstown Rebels.  Apparently Damian Lazarus heard the tune and immediately wanted it for his coveted Crosstown imprint.  "NA" (which stood for "Nick" and "Adam") had Rosina's A-grade vox on it, and the trio was responsible for shaking the worlds dancefloors for about two years straight.

Nick Murray aka Murr is a nasty techno and house producer who has a number of releases on Adam Marshall's Berlin-based imprint New Kanada, and on other labels such as 53oTechno, Public Transit Records, Kuji, DNH (Nick Holders Old Label) and more.  Murr should be a lot bigger than he is, this guy seriously brings that grease - - I absolutely love this third Re-Edit by Marshall.

Rosina and Murr have another - - 3-person project - - together called LAL Forest, which releases really cool music that brings together many diffierent elements in music to create a completely unique fusion of sound unlike almost anything I have ever heard.  Check out and buy LAL music on their official site or iTunes.  Support people with heart and a love for what they do - - that is what we are all about.  Here are a few more samples of the great music these two souls create.

Calling All Late Night Slickers

A few days ago i drove over a skunk... just kidding i didnt run over anything, in fact i dont even have a car, or a drivers license for that matter.  Anyways, i ran into a few tunes in the past few weeks that really tickled my fancy, and much like the outcome of skunk flattening, the one I am featuring today is a real stinker(in the best possible way).  A stinky little treasure from the deep house chest, if you will.

This track that has been seeing heavy rotation in my late night arsenal, a deep roller yearning to be played during late night drive on a road to nowhere.  The artist, Seuil, has been plugging away for some time now releasing some hot tunes on labels such as Adam Marshall's New Kanada as well as Moon Harbour, Droog's own Culprit, and a slew of others.  His latest release to drop was his "Late Call" EP released on Hello?Repeat - - check out the title track right here and see why you need to keep your eyes glued on this french groove master.

Blood Sucking Marshall

A. Marshall's New Kanada Imprint Serves Up Some Serious Artwork. The Tunes Aren't Bad Either.

Thank god Halloween is over.  Thank god twice for the three-hundred and fifty-plus days of halloween free living that lay ahead of me.  Unfortunately Halloween is only the  second worst "holiday" of the year, and my most dreaded (Christmas) is just a jingle or two away.  Damnit.

N/A ft. Rosina - Fables & Fairytales (Original Mix) >>> [BUY IT]

Note: N/A is Toronto's Nick Murray (aka Murr) & Berlin-based Adam Marshall

Anyways, I am in a good mood today because DJ/producer Adam Marshall came back to his home of Toronto for the first time in three years and I got to meet him.  Honestly, I thought the man behind New Kanada would be better looking than he turned out to be, but he made up for it by being a real nice guy.   On friday Adam rolled through our send off event for pal Noah Pred, who is moving to EDM hot spot  Berlin to get shit poppin with his career and label, Thoughtless Music.  The turnout was sub par due to a number of reasons, but who the fuck cares - - Adam Marshall was all up in the underground bunker-turned-toaster-spaceship that night and it made my god damn day.  He left though because I couldnt sell him anymore of my personal beers.  See what years in Europe does to one's pre-party preparations?  Fucks shit up.   Still, I loved that he came by.  After all, I am a big fan of his music and imprint.

Adam Marshall - Kokane (Original Mix) >>> [BUY IT]

Marshall recently unveiled his beauty's true hiding spot - - his heart - - by offering up a vinyl-only release for free digital download through his soundcloud.  The tune, Vamp (NK27), is a pleasantly melancholic nostalgia burrito that leaves you hungry, despite being over ten minutes long.  Shit reminds me of that painful moment every year when I would be sitting in the back seat of a sweltering sedan holding back salty tears, wondering if I would ever see my dear friends from summer camp ever again.  You know, that perfect mix of happiness and sadness, wrapped in a fucking tortilla.  Check it out, but save us the tears this time.  Just download it and say "thank you" to Adam for being such a peach.

Rosina, Murr & Gold

Murr feat. Rosina : "My Best Dress" from New Kanada on Vimeo.

Here is a little vimeo preview of upcoming New Kanada release No.28 (nk28).  "My Best Dress" is produced by none other than Canada's Nick Murray (aka Murr) and features the fresh vocals of Rosina Kazi, who together have released a number of songs through their project LAL.  The tune is quite minimal and didn't really peak my interest too much at first, but the simple tune's bouncy bassline comes together beautifully in the chorus with the whiney vocals of Rosina and accompanying high kicks.  So beautifully that after my third time through, I have become a total fan, or maybe I should say addict.  Keep your eyes peeled for this one, upcoming on New Kanada.

Shrink Wrapped Kanada

New Kanada is a label which is owned by Toronto native Adam Marshall.  Now residing in Berlin, he is often quoted as being one of Canada's most stahlwart electronic music producers and label owners.  Marshall founded his widely respected record label in 2007 as a means of promoting and releasing his own music as well as that of other artists with similar tastes from across the globe.  It is not suprising that his imprint has been gaining serious momentum over the past year when one considers the sheer number of excellent releases that have been put out by the label during that time.  An excellent example of the labels penchant for supporting only the highest quality electronic music is its most recent release, the four track Berg EP by Turkish techno/tech house producer Tolga Fidan.

The obvious stand out tune on this release is the EP's title track Berg, a wonderful creation which incorporates electric strings, complimentary female and male vocals, melancholic synths and a blood pumping bassline that gets muscles moving.  This is definitely one of the most exciting tunes I have heard this year - - big ups to by boy Mandelephant for suggesting I listen to this greasy track.

The EP's track Old also finds itself in that darker tech house / techno vein - - something Marshall values highly - - but I feel that this number brings with it a darker and heavier sound than does Berg.  Pan flutes, deeply agressive bass and punchy kicks definately make this tune appropriate for late night vampire raves.  While the synths get a little weird during the later portion of the track, they are definately not weird enough to make me stop playing the EP over and over again since I copped it a couple of days ago.  Dark and dirty late night greasers to get you loose at the afterparty.
