The Grease Boutique [Vol. 1]

The Original Grease Boutique: Dick Diamonds & Paul Beazy, aka Bone$ McLeod (Pronounced: Mic-Loud). Taken somewhere, sometime by someone of two late night greasers.

Just wanted to hop in real quick like, with a little stinger by my boy Paul Beazy aka Bone$ McLeod.  This is the first little mix I have heard in a while from the witty Toronto-based rapper, slang-slinger and occasional selector.  The mix was not quite long enough to be submitted as a DRMbut definitely makes for a great listening experience with some new fire he just dug up in the mix.

For the fans of hip-hop out there, make sure you check out some of Bones' work under his other moniker Paul Beazy on RevebNation, which is essentially a "nickname of a nickname" - - a modified shortening of his original rap alias Paul Bearer.

You can catch Bone$ McLeod spinning an hour long set at TOTA Lounge tonight at around 11:30pm for a new weekly event called Deep Kiss Tuesdays.  Who knows, you may even see some of us out there in the crowd, or even spinning with him during his first set under the new new "Bone$ McLeod" moniker.  The new weekly event will happen tonight, then jump onto a weekly basis starting in two weeks, on Tuesday the 27th.

It's gonna be fun.  A "real pearll" of a time, as some might say in Italy - - so come out!!

To download this mix, click here.  Enjoy it, and look forward to the next volume in Paul's Grease Boutique Mix Series.

Limited Time 4 Limited Deep North Boards

Excuse the picture quality, the actual Deer & Text are in a beautiful wood grain.

Our friends over at Longboard Living in Kensington Market made a limited number of super cool longboards with the Deep North's signature deer logo on the bottom, and there are only two (2) of these badboys left for sale, and only for a super short time!

The man behind the idea to make these limited decks, Durt Stash, aka Sebastian Bravo, is heading off to his native country of Colombia on the 24th for three months and will be bringing them with him to sell at his new Lonboard Living: Colombia shop - - unless of course, someone offers to buy them before then.

For more information on price, or to check out these wicked boards yourself, hit the store for yourself in Kensington Market, downtown Toronto.  You can also check their website or give them a call at 1 416.901.8666.

Here is a tune by Subb-an & Adam Shelton (S.A.S) and a 1990's mix by Rubsilent.

DRM 012: Neoteric

Since our internet situation has been less than optimal (non-existant) until now, we have been having some trouble with our day to day transactions, one of which has been getting our good old pal Neoteric's Deeply Rooted Mixtape up on the blog so that we could all enjoy this delicious bag of candied tunage together.

Neoteric, who is originally from Canada's West coast, moved out to Europe in order to kick his music career into high gear.  The move has put Neoteric amongst some of the worlds finest electronic producers and our boy is constantly on that hustle and grind, day in and day out -- evidenced by some of the projects he has been working on.

In mid July Neo put out a gnarly followup to his electro house compilation, Turned On Volume 1, through Discobelle.  While the first volume in the compilation series was decidedly electro house, the followup has moved a bit more towards the techier side of house music, a flavourful mix of sweet electronica which we are loving over here at the Deep North.

Take small bite out of this remix of "How Deep Is Your Love" by Neoteric & Wax Motif -- a savory house biscuit remix -- and then tell us you don't want to devour the whole thing.  I bet you can't.  Download this beautiful bit from discobelle or XLR8TR for free.

The Rapture - How Deep Is Your Love (Neoteric & Wax Motif Remix) >>> [Free Download]

Earlier in the year Neoteric & Wax Motif came together with Southern Fried to put forth the Go Deep EP, which includes remixes of the club banger by Supabeatz, KeithMaxxi Soundsystem as well as local Toronto producer Gingy.  I really like the original mix, but I think Maxxi's version gives it a good run for it's money in my opinion, followed by the version put together by our fellow Torontonian Gingy.

As you can see, this guy likes to put in work.  It was no suprise to me that Neo has a very hard time finding a moment to breath in between putting together his White Light and unlisted mixes, doing radio shows for Scion, working as an A&R for Dubsided Records and touring the European continent to bang out shows for big crowds.  After being told that a mix would be difficult to get from him a couple of times, I had pretty much given up - - until one day a few months ago Neo hit me up saying that he had not forgotten us, and that he would have a Deep House mix put together exclusively for the blog.

So here it is folks, a Deep & Delicious mix by my man Neoteric straight out of Berlin, a place which undoubtedly influenced his selections and desire to focus a bit more on the deeper side of house, a side which i wish was as popular here in Canada as it is on the European continent.  Now, let's dig into this hearty melange of deep, dirty tracks.

DRM 010: BUBBA

Deeply Rooted Mixtape number ten.  Its hard to believe that four months have quickly passed us and that we are already on our tenth exclusive mix in our Deeply Rooted series.  The response to the mix series has been overwhelming, with major talents such as Tomas Jirku, Mr. Ho and Barletta, among others, taking time to carefully craft us exclusive works to share with our beloved readers.  We thank everyone for their contruibutions and are happy to announce that the tenth mix is just as special.

Our tenth mix comes from Jonny Smyth, aka Bubba, a man with magical talent in music and who, although not as widely recognized as some of his more mainstream counterparts, has released music with some of the most respected  names in the industry.  Hailing from Belfast, Ireland, Bubba is a man with serious accomplishments in the house music game.  With his friend Mark Scoper, Bubba released tracks on Luke Solomon and Derrick Carter's label Classic and Paul Woolford's project Hip Therapy.  Bubba also has worked with Jet Project on a team project called Bubba & T-Bone, with releases on labels such as Elevation, Mode Music and Tom Budden's Alive Imprint.  As a solo artist, Bubba has been making major moves as well, with amazing releases on respected labels such as Klasse Recordings, Extended Play, Assymetric and Logical.  The future looks friendly for this hard working house head who loves big bass and the odd wonk and skronk - - we hope to see our good friend out here in Toronto in the coming year or so, and we would love it if you could too.

We are honoured to present to you Bubba's Bass Huggin' Mix, the tenth in our Deeply Rooted Mixtape series.  This one-hour long mix is packed with wicked tunes from artists such as Manik, Tom Demac, Chirs Carrier, Kink & Neville Watson, dOP and Maceo Plex.  Get your dancing shoes on and prepare for some serious action kids - - Bubba is here, and he is not fucking around.

DRM 009: Ryan Good

Deeply Rooted Mixtape 009 comes from our good friend Ryan Good out of the UK.  I met Ryan last year during an amazing Deep House party put on by the guys at Buzzin' Fly records.  The label night was fantastic, and I ended up meeting Ryan because he had an uncanny physical resemblance to one of my best friends from Montreal, Matt Swamp.  I just had to find out if my eyes were playing with me.

Over the course of the night I got to know the London local a bit better, and although he looked like good old Swampo, he was just his doppelganger after all.  Ryan has been working hard on his productions lately, which have recieved positive feedback from respected producers such as moodyman.  I suggest you check his works out -- especially The Hustle and Pizzicato - -   over on his soundcloud page.  But before you do that, make sure you download and listen to his mix The Unforgettable Reason.  The mix is a bit shorter than our average submission and comes with two of my favourite songs from 2010; U Got Me and Ruckus.  I really want Ryan to come out to Canada to visit, but for now I will just have to keep playing the bastard's DRM mix. Good God, he start saving up a Good bankroll.

DRM 003: Le Bricoleur (Eclectic Dyslexic)

The third installment of our Deeply Rooted Mixtape series comes from Le Bricoleur (Brendan Boyle aka Eclectic Dyslexic), an extremely talented Canadian DJ with exquisite taste in deep, groovy house music.  This man's penchant for choosing succulent morsels of heat simply shines on his recently submitted exclusive mix for The Deep North.  Aptly named, Le Bricoleur's Approaching The Tree Line is a wonderful mix that takes listeners on an hour-plus journey through the thickets of the Deep North, much of which I personally had never explored before hearing this mix.

What does "Le Bricoleur" mean anyways?  When asked this question Brendan told me that it refers to a person who combines pre-existing materials into something entirely new.  After hearing this aural collage I think most will agree that this statement is clearly true.

Grab the tracklist for this mix and see more Deeply Rooted Mixtape submissions Here.

Neo-Grease

Our homie and fellow Canadian Neoteric has been in the trenches like a real soldier putting in that grunt work over the past year, and shit is paying off.  Originally from Vancouver, British Colombia, Neoteric made the big move over the Atlantic Ocean last year to the European continent in order to take both his music and business careers to the next level.  Not only is Neo a world-class producer of electronic music - - with releases on heavyweight imprints such as Top Billin, Southern Fried and Discobelle - - he is also the A&R for grammy-nominated producer Switch's label Dubsided.  Busy motherfucker, to put it lightly.

Neoteric hit me up earlier this week tuned me into his 38-minute house mix Unlisted OO3: Body Master and I think it's fitting to share it through the blog.  Download the mix below and get out your gym towel and headband, because this one is so hot you will sweat.  Hot and fresh new jams for the Northern fam.  Stay tuned:  Neoteric will be delivering us an exclusive house mix in the next 4-6 weeks, especially for the readers of the blog!

Although I am hesitant to share this little dance floor gem with anyone, I have been selfish long enough.  Here is an amazing club tool that Neo made a while back and put up on his soundcloud - - which I promptly copped and have been spinning in my sets non stop since.  The man brings together two club classics - - Everybody Wants and Erotic City - - into a honey-sweet creation that get's the babes buzzin' and dance floors melting.  Heat, heat, heat!!
