Collect Calls On The Lam

2 Samples of Upcoming Originals by Sean Roman & Dick Diamonds on Molotov21

New Release forthcoming from Sean Roman & Dick Diamonds on Brazilian up and coming label Molotov21 out of Rio de Janeiro.  The label is owned by Toucan member Bernardo Campos and Pedro Mezzonato, and boasts a pretty strong lineup which includes releases by sick artists such as Beep Dee, S.K.A.M., Diego Moreno, Rockerr (Ricardo Estrella), Nytron, Matt Fear, Adam Banks, Allan Villar (Pimp$hit) and others.

This will be Sean's second EP for the label, his first being the highly successful Staring EP.  Molotov has put out a lot of fire in the past year, and their label has risen to become one of Brazils premier forces in its growing house and techno market.  We are super stoked to be working with our friends over at Molotov.

We are even more excited that we have two unbelievable remixers on this EP doing their own personal take of the releases title track Collect Call. BUBBA (Runnin Wild, Hot Creations) and his production partner T-BONE (Extended Play, aka Timmy Steward of Jet Project) each did a remix of one of our favorite productions to date. It is an absolute honour to have these two amazing artists and good friends of ours included on this EP.  There is some more info on the release and media below.  We hope you dig this one, we loved doing it.

CHOO....CHOO!!

This Friday, The Deep North has got something super special planned for all you house heads out there. We're bringing together four deep house/techno players in the game to do things right for our 27th Late & Deep spectacular, at an all new location. The venue is two floors and has just revamped its soundsytem. This sounds like an equation for a serious party shindig. So, all you dance fiends out there, get prepared, it's a short work week and then the jam goes down Friday night. If you're not already anticipating it, listen to some of these mixes from our headliners to test the waters. Then, you'll know what's in store for you. The mixes speak for themselves.

Up first is a tasty treat from Throne Of Blood co-owner James Friedman:

Follow that up with an exclusive mix that Toronto's proud to be own Basic Soul Unit did for us:

And top it off with this beauty from Populette:

That should be enough to tide you over until the big night. So, now I'm sure I'll see all of you out Friday night supporting the Toronto good music scene.

Here's how to get in the know: Event Link

Peace,

Rhobot Jones

Philip James de Vries: More Than Meets The Eye
Philip James de Vries
is a low-key cat.  In fact, until about a month ago I just thought he was the Studiofeed.com radio guy, because he was always there to make sure our random Deep North Radio show was recorded much better than I could ever hope to play.  He does a great job with that, often making us look way better than we deserve, and puts together a tight audio/video production.  Phil is also a model for the rest of us lazy bastards, often passively teaching guys like me how much better it looks when you are punctual, professional and mysterious.

I previously spent hours wondering who the hell this guy was - - despite the obvious fact that I could have just asked - - and I quite enjoyed not knowing.  I thought he must be, at the least, some audio/visual nerd (like everyone who knows how to do things I can't) or perhaps a mad scientist brewing up ideas for the exciting Subpac Project that was happening behind the scenes over at Studiofeed.   He probably is both of those, but finally after millions of guesses, I found out something concrete.  Some of my hypothesizing finally came to an end when I found out he is an electronic music producer.  I might add that he is a damn good one too.  To be honest, I still don't know much about Phil and will be asking a lot more questions now.  I feel stupid for not knowing earlier, but I also feel that he could turn out to be someone a lot more dangerous.  I need to be prepared, my expectations seem to be way off.

Philip James de Vries - Mini Mix for Helioscope Radio (Feb 2013)

Philip is a great fucking dude, and the same can be said about his unique take on music.  Having only released his first tunes in 2012, he already has an impressive string of releases on notable labels including the German titan Traum, as well as others on Fever and Canadian based Wide Angle Recordings.

Check out Phil.  Also check out his music.  His tunes are different, and that is going to get him places.  Largely emotional and melodic, this guy makes tunes that will make you fucking happy and sad, as well as lovesick for times past.   Check his work out for yourselves, I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.  Phil, you sneaky little bastard.... this is some good shit.

Fuck Jack... Jacques is Back!

Back in action: Jacques Renault drops heavyweight material on Let's Play House

Jacques Renault, aka the head of respected NYC house imprints On The Prowl, OTP Party Breaks and Let's Play House (LPH), has just put out his first original production in 3 years.  Three years of putting out other peoples music and remixing the work of friends can quickly seems like a long ass time.  The release, titled "Back to You" on LPH Records features the original mix and a remix by Paradis.

Jacques Renault - Back To You (Original Mix) >>> [BUY IT]

I was completely blown away with the promo of the Original mix.  I got the promos in the mail from LPH, a beautifully crafted, albeit  relatively less enthusiastic disco house tune that sweats the dancefloor like a feverishly humid day following a tropical  storm.   Hands are lifted high as this groove hurricane makes the babes and their wannabe lovers bounce across the floor with enthusiasm.  I have been seeing that a lot of people prefer the Paradis remix, but I think I am into the Original mix best.  Either way, the release is fucking off the chain.

Jacques Renault - Back to You (Paradis Remix) >>> [BUY IT]

While on the topic of Jacque's great taste in music, we are super excited to announce that Sean Roman & I (Dick Diamonds) will - - alongside another Toronto friend TJ (Room303)  - - be releasing our first ever vinyl together through Jacques On The Prowl imprint.  Keep your eyes peeled for this one folks, as the release will also come with a remix by Tuff City Kids.  Check out the samples of the two originals below, one of which has what could be the weirdest track name ever.

Unsigned & Undeniable

His unbearably common name - - Matthew - - and amazingly friendly smile should not influence your perceptions. Tasc is a bad, bad mother fucker. Hide under your sheets at night.

So yeah, more heat has been emanating from the depths of the Hazy Hotel in Toronto.  Culprit: Tasc, our homeboy and long time TO-Veteran disc jockey known for his ever evolving taste in music and fresh to death finess on the decks.  Dude is good, like this must be our fifth post on this guy - - at least.  If you want more, check the goodies out here.

He also shares our penchant for all things cheese.  Proof comes by way of his video selection.  Horrible stuff to accompany his amazing music.  Don't sleep on this mother fucker.  Like, for real.

Follow this horrible bastard here @Tasc and Tasc's soundcloud.

He also writes a potent blog, Channel One.

Free Tunerino & Heatwave Music

Avoiding Heatstroke: Stay Hydrated & Avoid Sean Roman's Music. Cracking Open A Hydrant May Not Be Completely Legal, But It Is Completely Fun.

Do you like free music?  Do you like sweet, succulent sounds that offer heavenly experiences to the ear, mind and soul?  Do you like Sean Roman's firey productions and extreme good looks?  Do you like to support those who dj while still in full-arm casts?

If you answered yes to these questions, you should download this free tune - - courteousy of our maniac member Sean Roman and the music blog Music Is For Lovers - - which was included in a recent article posted about our boy.  MIFL (no, not MILF) is a neat blog who I will be adding to our blogroll after I finish this post.

Sean Roman - You Don't Have To Go >> [But you do have to Download]

To help round things out, here is a recent mix by the Romanski production machine - - dedicated to his overheated hood in Toronto's west end.  That's Bloorcourt blood.... uncut!

Tonight: Kate Simko + Hermans @ Wrongbar

Kate Simko plays Wrongbar tonight with Deep North's Hermans and Platform resident Gera. Click the image to visit the event page.

Tonight myself and Max the Fax - - aka the Hermans - - have the absolute pleasure of playing alongside one of our favorite producers from Chicago, Kate Simko, at one of Toronto's favourite clubs Wrongbar.  We are super stoked on this and can't wait to see her play.  The promoter of the show, Houseaddict, wrote a cool blog post on their website about us, and included an exclusive mix we did specifically for this show.  Below is the quoted article and mixtape, we thought it was super nice of the Houseaddict crew and wanted to thank them for the booking and kind words.  Make sure you sign up for reduced guestlist before 12am by clicking the following link for Reduced Guestlist @ Kate Simko.

QUOTED Post @ Houseaddict.com:

" Let’s just start this blog off proper shall we?  The Deep North are a fucking motley crew!!!  They’re a team of three dudes who chose the underground of Toronto as their outlet for creativity, and that comes in the form of producing unique tracks, and showcasing them at uber-unusual venues such as basement bars in Chinatown, and most recently, defunct loft spaces on Colleges St. in the heart of Little Italy.  Their marquee series, as many of you will already know, is LATE & DEEP.

Two of the three homies, Dick Diamonds and Max The Fax, joined forces to start producing asThe Hermans.  These two dudes completely ignore any conventional rules of mixing music and genres.  In fact, they tend to create sets that really are hard to pigeon hole into a single genre.  One might say that’s what makes them who they are.  Hell, why bother talking about it, when we can just listen to a sample they made exclusively for our crew:

Hermans - Two House Addicts Bound by Sound >>> [Download]

When we spoke to the dynamic duo back in April about performing with Kate Simko on June 22 @Wrongbar, well they jumped off the computer screen and gave us a huge hug.  Man, if that ain’t dedication to the cause, we really don’t know what is.  This event kicks off our collaborative series,SUMMER MIXTAPE SESSIONS (SMS), a four-month residency at Wrongbar  : )

The Hermans will have the set time just prior to Kate taking over the booth, so please join us on the dance floor to get things moving early.

SMS aims to offer Toronto a summer of performances with underground artists who demonstrate how being different should be the norm.  All in the heart of Parkdale…

Caution – you may have a hangover after this one  ; )"

Thanks so much for the kind words guys!!

Here is a recently uploaded set by Kate Simko which we found on her soundcloud.  You can also check out an article we wrote on Kate last year by clicking here.  Enjoy, and we hope to see you tonight!!
