RMS  B.U.B.B.A.

Not even a massive chunk of ice would stop this boat outta BelfastPulse's Christian Murphy just put together this great article on our boy Jonny Smyth aka B.U.B.B.A. featuring a jamming little podcast and an insightful interview where you'll learn how he had coffee get him from young Irish boyhood to world-class producerhood and as of late, budding label ownershiphood.  I'm really glad I finally sat down to check out his roots and early sound, proving his experimental and humbling approach to music.  Bubba's stay here at the Deep North HQ was an absolute delight and we can't wait to have this legendary producer, sessioner and general good dude back in Toronto...now check the interview, mix & these two neat little new tunes.

Beep Dee & Fox Glove

Beep Dee, RMotta, Fox Glove & Rockerr. Some names which are important important to know as Brazil continues to grow as a big player in international house music.

Beep Dee aka Cesar Werlon is among the cream of Brazil's hottest house exports these days, and has been since his release on Hot Waves 001, an amazing number which goes by the name Colorado.  This tune was the best of the lot on the compilation, and since then Beep Dee has continued to push the envelope both as a solo producer and as part of the super hot duo Fox Glove with his friend RMotta.  If you know of Beep Dee, then you know he is amazing.  If you don't know about this guy or Fox Glove, then you need to learn immediately why he is one of my favorite producers out there.  Keep your eyes peeled for a DRM mix from this guy in the future, as well as his remix of my upcoming release on Zoo:Technique with my production partner Sean Roman - - due out in early summer.

And here is some work which was done with fellow Brazilians and Molotov21 label mates Toucan and Rockerr - - these kids do not fuck around.  Take this fire in, then exhale.

Shiver Me Tonnes Of Timbers

Picture: Paula RosaYes, Yes, it is "old news".  Old news or not, this recent release by Waifs and Strays is Hot.  Hot Creations that is.  I first heard Body Shiver on the Fabric 59 compilation, and was just blown away by how good the bassline was, making this relatively simple tune so right, in so many ways.  Well, I just copped the EP and while the original mix is fire, the remix by Hot Creations' boss duo Hot Natured (Lee Foss & Jamie Jones) is a n undeniable addiction waiting to happen. - - meaning that with a few listens it devours your interest completely, leaving you thinking only of the insanely catchy tune.  Nothing else matters to me right now, except maybe this remix.

But, before you indulge, we would like to shout out the Leftroom imprint which initially rele

ased a number of tracks by the Waifs and Strays, and which has been killing it as of late - - we love the Kitchens & Bedrooms track by Alexis Raphael.  Definitely a label to watch over the coming months, I predict many more hot releases from the left camp which seems to be alternating releases with the boys over at Hot Creations.  Coincidence?  Who cares!

Murder Mig

Miguel Campbell has been on fire over the past year and he has done it again, this time with a number one on Beatport.  Something Special on Hot Creations  hit number one but has now fallen down to #2nd overall after losing the spot to Moguai & Fatboy Slim's (subpar in my opinion) tune Pick Up The Tempo.  Miguel  Campbell has been focusing on that really basic formula where by a producer finds a hook, a hot set of vocals and some greasy bass to create an instantaneously infectious track that shoots up the digital releases charts.  Whether you are a fan of this formula or not, one thing is for certain, it has been working.

Miguel Campbell - Something Special (Original Mix) >>> [BUY IT]

While on the topic of Hot Creations and their new head Miguel Campbell, I wanted to remind people of how hot his track "Baby I Got It" is, a tune which was rinsed heavy in Miami and was definitely his "spring" into stardom as a top end House producer in the scene.

More Exclusives: Sean Roman & Jeff Rhodes

Another exclusive?  You know how it is here at The Deep North, we always share the goodies we get when we can.  Our boy Sean Roman is on fire right now, developing dance floor monsters that in my opinion, are some of the baddest house heaters coming out of Canada at the moment.  Recently Sean sent me a few tracks of his, many of which had recently been signed to killer labels such as Hot Waves, , Act Natural, Assembly and My Favourite Robot.  While all the tracks were serious heaters, my very favourite was one called Quirks, which he produced with Jeff Rhodes.

SEAN ROMAN & JEFF RHODES - QUIRKS .......... Download below.

While the -- suprisingly -- unsigned song is very simple, the vocal loop and the bassline werre destined to be together, combining to help create an infectiously catchy track that has me shaking without every day unless I get my fix - - a quirky dose on a phat set of speakers.

Sean told me at Late & Deep III this past weekend that I could put it up on the blog as an exclusive to share with the readership - - so here I am.  While I am stoked and honoured to share it with the world via the Deep North, I am only going to share the 128kbps version.  Why?  Simply because I think that Sean should hold out until someone realizes that this track is a wicked party jam that needs to be released.  In the meantime, here is the 128kbps version to get y'all excited.  Someone pick this one up please.

You can catch Sean Roman alongside DR.DVS, Pavel Elkin and myself Dick Diamonds, this Friday night at Augusta House for Nevernight - - a FREE jam I am putting together for fun.  It's always a good time seeing sean rip it up, so reach out if you want to hear some Deep House and Techno treats from this guy.  Check out the details for this event on Resident Advisor.

Cold & Dark Amusement

Lee Foss comes at us in 2011 with a number of new - - albeit less straightforward - - edits as Modern Amusement on his Cold as Ice EP, which was released in early April on Jonny White's No. 19 imprint.  I have been really grooving on the funky and dark title track Cold as Ice, with its mysteriously dark and eerie feel.  That greasy bassline is just so nasty and cool that I keep coming back for more.  I am sure it will have you doing the same.  Cold as ice, but hot as hell.
