Wu Tang, specifically Ol' Dirty Bastard.  Tom Demac.  What do you get when you combine the two amazing artists?  One healthy serving of hell-born heat.  Sub bass superstar and Electronique Audio bossman Tom Demac brings forward the tune Dirty Honey through the UK's Hypercolour imprint.  Hot shit right there.  Came out yesterday and you should buy it today because that is the logical next step in your life's process.... obviously.  The whole EP is solid, but my Wu obsession made this one an unarguable winner in my mind's reasoning.

We have you coverd.  This Remix by Jamie Jones is so dirty,  just talking about it makes me want to wear a bib just in case.  While this gem is a bit older (2k9), it has seen so much play by me that it's one of those timelesss tunes which will always be a tool ready to be inserted into any given set.  

On a similar note, speaking of Jones, I just saw that the newest tunes released on Hot Creations - - Jamie's label with Lee Foss - - come from  Heartthrob, and are available at Phonica, over here.

Chris Mitchell x Techno x Vanguard Sound!

Chris Mitchell is a name most people probably don't know - - but should. The Tampa producer is making heat that would kill the elderly.

Chris Mitchell is a name that has been mentioned - - albeit briefly - - a couplke of times here at The Deep North, both times for his musical project with Lady Blacktronika called the Ikenga Project.  Chris is no stranger to the deeper side of electronic music, and in fact, after catching a few of his youtube videos and recent tracks from his Vanuard Sound (002) release, both Max and I were captivated by the quality of terrific techno music this guy is putting out.  We especially love the tune Phrenetic! and the cool video it comes along with.  Check it out below, along with a couple of the other tracks on his first solo EP - - released on his own imprint, which he co-owns with Amir Alexander.  Great stuff Chris.

Strange Animals, Talking Melodies

It's no secret amongst those who know me that I am an absolutely crazy fanatic for the music of Jamie Jones.  It might be a lesser known fact that I am also a huge fan of the Talking Heads, a band which made wonderful music between 1976 - 1988, and which has developed a well deserved cult-following, largely due to the genius of it's lead singer David Byrne.

What do you get when you combine Jamie Jones, Wolf + Lamb's main man Gadi Mizrahi and The Talking Heads?  This wonderful edit of 1983's This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody), easily one of my favourite tracks by this classic band.  Enjoy the video of the original tune, then check out the wicked edit - - released by Wolf + Lamb Black on Vinyl.

Getting Laid Daily

Earlier in the week i grabbed a compilation from a fairly new sub-label of DIAL records called LAID.  It is filled with dark, yet suprisingly feel good music that one could jam to either at home or in the club. The track i have chosen to share is called Third Hand Smoke and clearly defines the labels sound with dark driving bass stabs underneath dreamy high end synth strings all on top of a real swinging house groove. All is well.

DRM 005: Boots Boogie

It's that time again, and this week we are bringing you something a little bit different in our Deeply Rooted Mixtape Series.  The fifth installment in our exclusive mix series comes from a very good friend of mine named Derek Williamson, aka Boots Boogie.  With over 7 years of DJ experience under his belt, Boots Boogie is no stranger to making the dance floor move - - having thrown and played at almost every type of party imaginable, this man knows how to put some funk in your feet.

Over the past two years, Boots has been known mainly for his role as one half of the Toronto DJ duo Hotmess, who have played some of the best venues in the city, including Wrongbar and the Mod Club.  Recently however, he has been playing a lot more solo gigs as Boots Boogie - - bringing the heat to the night with his love for all things house - - especially funky, disco house.  I have had the pleasure of playing with Boots a number of times and we recently upped the ante by starting a weekly house night at Bunda Lounge together every Thursday night along with Paul Revered and Durt Stash.
