DRM033: CCDISCO!

DRM033 comes via Boots Boogie's good Australian friend CC:DISCO!

The 33rd piece of the DRM puzzle comes all the way from Australia, a part of the world we have not had a mix from - - unless you count that of Australian-born Deepchild, who lives in Berlin - - before this one.  CCDISCO! heads up the Australian Kiss FM radio show D is for Disco is a very funny and upbeat gal whom I met once as Boots Boogie (a close friend of the aussie's) and his crew, including the Hotmess DJs' Chris James and disco babe Cozmic Cat, were kicked out of a rock bar's premesis for playing music they didn't like.  Who the hell brings in house music DJs to play a Rock Bar with Zero atistic tolerance, and a disdain for disco?  Motel.  Whatever, they are lily-dipping wannabe Rockstars who act like clowns and love Brostep to boot.

Disco is this lady's love, and she has done an exclusive mix for The Deep North's Deeply Rooted Mixtape series and sent it to us through her Canadian cohort Boots Boogie, aka "White Girl", "DBW" or the "Bad Disco Daddy" of the Deep North.  CC:DISCO has had the chance to rock crowds in Canada's PRIDE Parade to much fanfare.  Check out her soundcloud for more down under disco grooves.

Put on your wigs, platforms and swimsuits kids, cuz this one's a rare swim in the deep end of disco waters.  Thanks CC!  Call us, we want to throw a jam over in Tazmania, nut need to launch our party boats from your spot!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BUBBS

Our man Bubba has just turned 328 years old.  Dude makes some killer tunes for someone who lives longer than Galapagos tortoises.  The industry has changed a lot since the late 1600's, and we applaud him for remaining relevant despite initial doubts by the late king's retainers.  Wishing Bubbz a year of dream fulfillment and happiness.  Keep kicking the shit out of earholes and all that - - we love ya buddy!

Here are a couple of hot candles for you all to enjoy on his special day.  We have a nice Bubba & T-Bone remix and some funky house tunes from Scoper & Bubba which are free, downloadable 320's.  Now that is a real birthday gift.

UPDATE:  Bubba has put up an amazing track up for FREE LIMITED TIME DOWNLOAD on soundcloud, and he has told me to share it with you, the readers of The Deep North. Get that!

LIMITED TIME FREE DOWNLOAD:

Bubba - We need a Break (Limited free Download) by B.U.B.B.A

DRM 005: Boots Boogie

It's that time again, and this week we are bringing you something a little bit different in our Deeply Rooted Mixtape Series.  The fifth installment in our exclusive mix series comes from a very good friend of mine named Derek Williamson, aka Boots Boogie.  With over 7 years of DJ experience under his belt, Boots Boogie is no stranger to making the dance floor move - - having thrown and played at almost every type of party imaginable, this man knows how to put some funk in your feet.

Over the past two years, Boots has been known mainly for his role as one half of the Toronto DJ duo Hotmess, who have played some of the best venues in the city, including Wrongbar and the Mod Club.  Recently however, he has been playing a lot more solo gigs as Boots Boogie - - bringing the heat to the night with his love for all things house - - especially funky, disco house.  I have had the pleasure of playing with Boots a number of times and we recently upped the ante by starting a weekly house night at Bunda Lounge together every Thursday night along with Paul Revered and Durt Stash.

Check out Boots' Deeply Rooted exlusive mix - - a funky fresh disco-and-tech house mix that will get your feet ready for Friday, even though it's only Monday.  The tracklisting can be found here.

VOICE OF Q...voice of Q...VOICE OF Q

QUOTED DIRECTLY:

'"Q' was a one-off project from the relatively obscure disco production team of Michael Forte and Bruce Weeden. Released in 1982 on the burgeoning Philly World International label, the track had a strong influence on the leftfield disco/electro genre. With its ultra funky bassline and vocoder bits laid over a haunting synth melody, it made for something pretty original sounding. From what I have gathered, this cut appealed to the new wave fashionistas and B-Boys alike. Good luck finding the 12 inch, and if you do track it down, expect to pay some coin for it."

Such a dope track.
