DRM031: DEEPCHILD

DRM 031 comes from Berlin's Techno heavyweight Deepchild. The Australian-born EDM producer has been making us dance for a couple of years now - - and there seems to be no end in sight. Prepare for his August 9th performance in Toronto by listening to this exclusive mix for the Deep North.DRM031 comes to us from the beat metropolis of Berlin, which is arguably the best place in the world to be as a techno producer for quite some time now.  The man behind this ultra sweet exclusive mix for The Deep North is Rick Bull, more commonly referred to by dancefloor zombies as Deepchild - - a man who is likely a whole lot nicer than your best friend and probably looks better in a dress than your girlfriend could ever hope for.

Rick is quickly becoming a seasoned veteran in terms of his experience at being blogged at the Deep North, because we write about him more often than we would like to admit (did we just admit to that? Shit), but for good reasons.  With releases on over 50 labels, most of which put out damn tracks with very high production quality, it's no wonder we have so many of his tracks.  While he missed his appearance at Late & Deep 10 in February due to reasons beyond our control, the man will be back in Toronto to make up for the lost trip.  Expect our boy in early August, which we reckon is perfect timing to allow us enough time to get sick of this mix.  Here's a free tuner.

Listen and buy more music by Deepchild over at Beatport.  Enough of my rambling.  With no further ado, we present to you an exclusive mix made by the illest cross-dressing producer we have ever known.

DRM030: T-BONE

Timmy Stewart aka T-Bone, a man of a million tunes and a million hearts. Good people who make REALLY GOOD music. Ace.

UPDATE: Tracklist added below, bumped back up!

The next two DRM Mixes are super special ones for us here at The Deep North because they come from two extrememly talented individuals who we respect unconditionally not only as producers and DJs, but also as good people.  Nearly a year ago the boys and I would have dreamt of having famed foot movers like T-Bone (aka Timmy Stewart) and Deepchild (aka Rick Bull) put together an exclusive mix for pur blog.  As things turn out, the world is full of average joes who check the ego at the door and connect with others through the lifeblood of our community - - music - - and nothing else.  We tip our hats to people like these, the guys who know that everyone has a part in motivating one another to do great things.

Timmy Stewart, aka T-Bone, is probably best known as one half of the heavy Tech House heat-storm that is Jet Project, and is a major mover behind the Extended Play imprint, which boasts a heated roster of dancefloor greasers and body shakers.  Timmy also has an alter ego which puts together terrific tunes that make tastemakers tremble with partner in crime Bubba, in the duo aptly known as Bubba & T-Bone.  The guy really put in the time for this mix, because let me tell you, this shit is going to melt your shoebottoms and rattle your noodle - - late night dancefloor beat-downs will commence.... now.

Thanks a bunch Timbo, we really loved this one!!

Popcorn Pred

HIGRADE RECORDS BERLIN x NOAH PRED = MASSIVE MUSIC.

Noah Pred has just dropped an absolute smasher of a mix for French label Popcorn Records.  Noah's "Popcast" is the 13th installment in the series, and really made me miss the Toronto native, who since last year has resided in Berlin.  Check out the podcast page here for a cool writeup on Noah.

The move seems like it is already paying off in absolutely massive ways, as the Canadian techno veteran  has recently signed to the Berlin giant Higrade Records.  His debut release on the label - - Motive Unknown EP - - includes two original mixes and a bone rattling dub by friend and label-mate Deepchild You can preview the release before it hits the stores on the Higrade website and order a pre-release copy of the vinyl over at decks records.

Tomas Jirku: Toronto Appearance

Wilderness lover Tomas Jirku makes some serious techno, and will be showing us the goods alongside Deepchild.

Our friend Tomas Jirku of Vancouver, whom we have featured on the blog a few times before - - including his exclusive DRM007 Mix for us - - has told me that he will be in town in early February to visit his family who are still living here in the area.

Tomas, who has been creating great techno treats since the nineties, wanted to come check out Late & Deep #10 while he was in town to check out the Deepchild performance and meet us in person.  We told him that that would be more than fine, and that it would actually be better if he came and played the event with us as it would be fun as hell - - if he were up for it.  He said that he was not only up for it, but was stoked to do so.  Check out this sneak peak of an upcoming release by Tomas, on the Leporelo imprint out of Slovakia.

So there you have it.  We are super excited to announce that our man will be gracing us with his presence and playing a set during our party series.  We cannot wait to see this guy play, but given that he has rocked the Mutek Stage in Quebec, along with various other great events - - we have no doubt that he will continue to blow our minds.  In fact, acording to Anatone of Hushlamb, he played one of the best sets at Mutek so we can't wait for this one - - two huge headliners, at one great party.  Incredible!

GET INTO IT.

For more information on LATE & DEEP #10, check out the Resident Advisor event page.  Facebook event will be up as soon as the new poster is done.  Buy some of Tomas' numerous releases over on Beatport.

We Fly Them: Sacha Robotti x Toronto

Click this poster to see the Facebook Event

You heard us correctly: The Deep North is flying Klasse Recordings' musical heavyweight Sacha Robotti into Toronto for a couple of shows.  This guy is going to blaze a serious trail of heat for our eighth installment of our popular all night sweatfest Late & Deep.

Although he is not really well known in our hometown, we like to take risks and show people what good music is all about by actually showing them...in person.  Make sure you reserve your spot by buying a discounted advance ticket from Earth & Fire on Queen Street West (489, 2nd floor), or take your chances by paying at the door.  Be one of 300 people to see this monster blow the dancefloor apart for his first time ever in Canada.  If all goes well, you will also see his label mate BUBBA in the early months of 2012 - - plans for Klasse's second arrival are already being made.

We are fucking stoked.  Here are some samples to get your mouth watering.

Luca Lozano & Sacha Robotti :: "BARTOK (Siopis Remix)" by Sacha Robotti

Sacha Robotti :: "MOVE (Bubba Remix)" by Sacha Robotti

Daniel Dexter & Nhan Solo :: "OUR THANG (Luca Lozano & Sacha Robotti Remix)" :: OFF Rec (snippet) by Sacha Robotti

Deepchild :: "LIVE AT DIMITRIS 1993 (Sacha Robotti Remix)" :: Trapez (snippet) by Sacha Robotti

Turmspringer :: "WHAT I'M TALKIN ABOUT (Sacha Robotti Dusty Remix)" by Sacha Robotti

We already featured this fall mix before, but we are gonna do it again.  Feel that!

Free Mastered Exclusive 320 From Thoughtless!

A Free Exclusive Remix directly from the mastering labs at Thoughtless Music. GNARLY! Exciting news tonight people, as we are happy to announce a brand new exclusive offer from our friends over at Thoughtless Music.  The label wants to share some important information regarding their latest release, which we recently wrote about two days ago.

Deepchild - The Suffering Ones (Original Mix)

As most of you know from - - hopefully - - reading the blog regularly, Thoughtless released a sick package exclusively on Beatport consisting of 8 remixes of Deepchild's tune "The Suffering Ones", which included remixes by two Deep North resident artists: Phantom Ambulance and Sean Roman.  You all should know - - and if not, will be interested to note - - that our resident contributor and long time co-founder Max the Fax is 1/2 of the production duo Phantom Ambulance as well.  Below are some interesting details which we touched on before regarding the release, in a somewhat expanded form.  Please take a moment to read the following as we think it is important and very relevant to those interested in the label, it's artists, and social causes.

THOUGHTLESS MUSIC SUPPORTS THE OCCUPY MOVEMENT WITH NEW RELEASE

"Record label set to donate first 99 sales of Deepchild's "The Suffering Remixed" to #OccupyToronto, and 1% of sales after that...

Toronto label Thoughtless Music has just released a remix pack for the smash single by Deepchild, “The Suffering Ones.” Keeping with the spirit of this song - which takes “Why are we the ones who suffer?” as its rallying refrain - we have decided to donate the label’s proceeds from the first 99 sales of the remix pack to the Occupy Movement; specifically, to our hometown chapter: Occupy Toronto. After the first 99 sales, Thoughtless will continue to donate 1% of all sales of the remix pack to #Occupy.

The Occupy Movement is currently facing eviction and oppression throughout North America. The movement is still finding its voice and direction. Here at Thoughtless we support this process and view the process as a fundamental right. Rather than find fault with the movement, we would like to see it grow and mature into an influential force for those with no voice and limited agency. We feel the Occupy mentality is vital to maintain in order to affect positive change within our world. Some have chosen to condemn the movement for its lack of organization and leaders; here at Thoughtless we applaud the inclusive spirit and horizontal power structure the Occupy Movement represents. We prefer to find ways to support this unprecedented movement rather than criticize or tear it down.

The remix pack for “The Suffering Ones” includes fresh interpretations of the Deepchild track from Tim Xavier, [a]pendics shuffle, XI, Noah Pred, Arthur Oskan, Gingy & Bordello, Sean Roman, and Phantom Ambulance. Purchase the entire remix pack on Beatport.com at a special bundle price and support independent music, thought and culture."

Click here to check out the release.  We think it is amazing that a music label which already faces a tough market every day is still in tune with social causes that are real and happening in our own city - - and trying to help make a change.  To learn more about the Occupy Movement and how Thoughtless is involved, check out: http://thoughtlessmusic.com · http://occupytoronto.org

Thoughtless Music artist and Deep North co-founder Max the Fax also did an official remix of the Deepchild tune, and it is wicked!  In order to wet your whistle and stimulate peoples interest in the cause the label has decided to give it away for FREE to the world, exclusively through The Deep North Blog.  Wickkkkkkked!

Right click the sponsored link below, and download the track for free from the Thoughtless website by choosing "Save Linked Content As....".

Hello Thoughtless! Farewell Sleazy!

Thoughtless Music's latest release - - the "Suffering Remixed EP" for Deepchild's "The Suffering Ones" - - was featured as a Beatport Exclusive yesterday.I would like to talk about the new remix ep that just dropped on Toronto's own Thoughtless Music imprint for Deepchild's late night (or more like early to mid morning) banger: "The Suffering Ones".

Australian producer Rick Bull - - commonly known as Deepchild - - has become a staple of sorts for the global underground EDM community, releasing over 50 tunes on a plethora of international imprints.  One would be hard pressed to actually say they have not danced to one of his tunes in a club, somewhere, sometime.  Rick has been making some serious moves in the past year putting out a solid block of tunes which have left a solid bootprint on the face of dancefloors everywhere.

The latest addition to his drum-clip of dance bullets just so happens to be an absolutely air tight package of full metal remixes of "The Suffering ones", a track which we featured earlier this year on the blog.  I was excited to hear the clip click exclusively into digital super-retailer Beatport's merchant machine gun two days ago, ready to unleash a heavy barrage of heat filled with searing selections touched by a super talented lineup made up of Tim Xavier, Arthur Oskan, Noah Pred, XI, [a]pendics.shuffle, Gingy & Bordello and The Deep North's own resident killers Sean Roman and Phantom Ambulance.

This hot little package includes remixes from a slew of talented local and international artists, both established names and fast rising tastemakers. I was super excited to see that Phantom Ambulance (the Deep Norths own "Max the Fax" alogside fellow muscian and kindred spirit Maxwell Lucas) had their way with the tune, Turning it upside down and bringing it back from a whole different angle.  Resident Sean Roman who just released on Hot Waves 002 with "Sarah's Song" provided his signature sultry vibe to the tune which resonated well with me.

since the release is hot off the press i will include the beatport player in hopes that all you fellow music lovers take the opportunty to go grab the release and not only support these talented remixers who made this such a solid clip of fire, but also those who are fronting the #Occupy Toronto movement that dares to shake the status quo in the name of change.  All of the artists on this release have agreed to donate all proceeds of the first 99 EP sales, as well as 1% of all sales, to the occupy chapter in  the imprints hometown of Toronto. If thats not your thing then you can rest assured that at the end of the day you will be getting some hot tunes from some hot cats, while putting some coin in their pocket. Enough said.  Now check it...

Go to Beatport.com Get These Tracks Add This Player
Keep your eyes peeled for a Deep North Exclusive from Thoughtless Musica FREE 320 kbps remix of Deepchild's tune by none other then our very own resident Max the Fax.  Check Back later today!
We throw it up for our crewmates and good friends at Thoughtless Music for their hard work and dedication to making music that is good, while maintaining some social conciousness in the process.  The Deep North salutes you!
We also bid farewell to our good friend Bea Sleazy, who unfortunately is going on indefinate leave from the blog due to mounting personal obligations with life, work and school.  We thank her for her contributions over the past few  months, and know she will be part of the Deep North Family for a long time to come.  You don't meet people that solid often, as we all know. Much love!

Deep + Children = Fire

Rick Bull, aka Australian-gone-Euro producer and DJ Deepchildis not you ordinary EDM artist.  Aside from taking seriously avant-garde promotional picturesRick Bull is different because he is a stand up guy who keeps his ego-trippin' to a bare minimum.  In other words, this cat is one fucking down-to-earth individual.  I was lucky enough to catch Deepchild playing (read: smashing) last month at Li'ly for a room packed full of people who had reached out for Deepchild's set at another infamous Thoughtlless Music party.  The show was fantastic, with sets by Phantom Ambulance, Alicia Hush, Fairmont, Deepchild and label owner Noah Pred.

I got a chance to speak -- and smoke numerous cigarettes - - with Rick after his set, finding out the hard way that he is quite the conversationalist.  The chit chat was so good that I nearly missed Noah Pred's entire set.  Bummer.  Anyways, I was able to get Rick to clear a few tracks for me to share at lower quality through thedeepnporth.ca.  Below you will find a few 128's for download.

The accomplished producer has had official releases on approximately 50 imprints including Thoughtless, Get Physical, Trapez, Resopal Schallware, Anabatic Records, Freerange, and BEEF Records.  This guy is a killer.  Check out all of his digital releases here. If you would like to see an exclusive mix for our DRM Series by Deepchild, make sure you leave a comment stating so on his FB fan page.

Check out this video for Deepchild's latest release on Thoughtless Music called The Suffering Ones.  Word has it that an official remix EP is on the way, which will include versions by The Deep North's very own Phantom Ambulance and good friend Sean Roman among a number of other cool artists.

Thanks for the tunes Rick!

Phantom Ambulance EP Release with Deepchild, Fairmont, Noah Pred & More!

Tomorrow is shaping up to be a BIG night in Toronto as we prepare for the official Medicine EP release party for The Deep North's dynamic resident duo Phantom Ambulance (comprised of Max the Fax and Max Lucas).  The party is extra special because the party - - hosted by Thoughtless Music - - has the boys playing alongside the super talented UK producer Deepchild and Canadian electronic heros Fairmont, Noah Pred and Alicia Hush.  Now that is what I like to call an all-star lineup.

The Deep North Crew will be in attendance for this amazing show of talent on Friday at Li'ly Lounge, and we hope to see some of our readers out there.  In fact, we have a special guestlist for those who can be at the venue before 11pm - - all you must do is "like" the Deep North Fanpage and read the information provided on how to get on our guestlist.  Make sure you come and say hi to the crew!

For more info on this event, make sure you check the Facebook event page and the Resident Advisor event pages.

In the meantime, check out some sweet tunes by some of the artists playing the show.
