Not even a massive chunk of ice would stop this boat outta BelfastPulse's Christian Murphy just put together this great article on our boy Jonny Smyth aka B.U.B.B.A. featuring a jamming little podcast and an insightful interview where you'll learn how he had coffee get him from young Irish boyhood to world-class producerhood and as of late, budding label ownershiphood. I'm really glad I finally sat down to check out his roots and early sound, proving his experimental and humbling approach to music. Bubba's stay here at the Deep North HQ was an absolute delight and we can't wait to have this legendary producer, sessioner and general good dude back in Toronto...now check the interview, mix & these two neat little new tunes.
A recent mix by myself Dick Diamonds here, which was made for The Playground Podcast Series, by Toronto's DJ KidTronic & DJ Kid Aand is available on iTunes. The recorded mix originally came with a45-minute voice interview + mix (total 1.5 hours) which was recorded at Kid A's house one evening in February. I have uploaded the mix without the interview for speedy listening, but make sure you listen to the interview if you can handle a raspy chat session about, well, me and my journey to becoming the weirdo that I am. Definitely a first for me. Thanks for the opportunity guys.

I have listened to this one a few times in my car over the past week, and I like it. It's a deep house mix by our Toronto-based friend and selector Neil Mooney, aka dirtyred. The mix - - which clocks in at just over one hour long - - is a basket of goodies which brings together treats from artists such as Lee Foss, Deetron, Seth Troxler, Solid Groove and Bassfort, among others. Try it out, and don't be shy by leaving red a comment. Get dirty.

Here at The Deep North we are fully committed to bringing you the finest mixes we can get our hands on. You have had the chance to taste some succulent submissions from Canada, Austria and Germany in our Deeply Rooted Mixtape Series - - we have some serious new heat coming right down that alley in the very near future by Vancouver's Tomas Jirku - - and we hope you loved them as much as we did. The Deeply Rooted Mixtape Series brings exclusive selections to the readers of the Deep North, showcasing the tastes and talents of a number of unique artists from different corners of the world.
Our team wants to keep pushing the envelope by bringing you more fun and exciting listening material that is unique and exclusively available to you, the loyal readers of The Deep North Blog. That being said, we are happy to announce that today marks the launch of a second, brand new exclusive mix series showcasing selections from our very own resident DJs and contributors. The new series is called the TeamDeep North Mixtapes (TDNM), and will consist of 30 - 75 minute long mixes shared exclusively through our website and put togetherby the members of our crew: Dick Diamonds, Durt Stash, Book and Phantom Ambulance(Maxwell Lucas and myself, Max the Fax).
Thats right folks, we will be heading down into the musical mines of TheDeep North in search of hot gems which we can craft into hot new mixes which will be shared exclusively with you. Strap on your headlamp, grab your pickaxe and prepare to dig deep...we are going in!
The First mix in the series is called the Deep, Dirty & Squirrely Mix and comes from the Deep North's founder and log chopping, beat dropping lumberjack Dick Diamonds. Get squirrely to this well mixed bag of assorted deep- and tech-house nuts!!
The third installment of our Deeply Rooted Mixtape series comes from Le Bricoleur (Brendan Boyle aka Eclectic Dyslexic), an extremely talented Canadian DJ with exquisite taste in deep, groovy house music. This man's penchant for choosing succulent morsels of heat simply shines on his recently submitted exclusive mix for The Deep North. Aptly named, Le Bricoleur's Approaching The Tree Lineis a wonderful mix that takes listeners on an hour-plus journey through the thickets of the Deep North, much of which I personally had never explored before hearing this mix.
What does "Le Bricoleur" mean anyways? When asked this question Brendan told me that it refers to a person who combines pre-existing materials into something entirely new. After hearing this aural collage I think most will agree that this statement is clearly true.

Our next exclusive in the Deeply Rooted Mix Series comes from Toronto's own Hans Edquist, a DJ and Producer more commonly known by his stage name Barletta. The co-founder of Burner Recordsis always on the grind and actually just returned from crushing dancefloors across South Korea. Never idle and always looking for something new to do, it was no suprise that our friend was quick on the draw in making The Deep North a special mix for the blog's readers. But beware kids, this is not your regular mix...
Barletta said that he got real creative on this project and included zero songsby any artist - -including himself - - in the mix. Instead, Barletta chose to make us a single "song" - - over 17 minutes long - - that was made on the fly using various drum loops and VSTs. Don't worry the "song" plays like a mix and is real rad, especially the second half of this deep intergalactic zinger.
If you are searching for something unique, then you just found it here at The Deep North. Prepare for an exploratory ride into the deep with this tripped out mix from outer space. Big ups to Jem Truelove for helping with the image picked for this entry.

Over the coming months we will be bringing you a number of exclusive mixes through our Deeply Rooted Mixtape Series. DRMs will be rolling in steadily from this point forward. All of the mixes presented in this special series will be put together and shared with the public exclusively through our blog - - ensuring that our readers always have something special to look forward to every couple of weeks here at The Deep North.
Deeply Rooted is about the passion we and our friends have for house music and nothing more. We look for contributing artists who live and breath house music, those who genuinely enjoy taking the time to craft a mix that reflects their personal taste and style, and who do it with enthusiasm. We seek those who see building a mix as fun and exciting rather than a chore that is only done after sufficient badgering. If you would like to send us a mix for consideration, please do so - - but remember that not everyone's mix will fit the bill, even if every mix is seamless.
Our first Deeply Rooted Mixtape comes from local house music fanatic, DJ and producer Paul Revered - - a man with that deeply rooted passion for house music that we look for. A longtime figure in the local Toronto scene, Paul has released music on labels such as Conneticuit's Soul Shift Music - - check out his awesome tune Flute Thingafter biting into his deep 44th Parallel Mixtape made specially for you.
