CHOO....CHOO!!

This Friday, The Deep North has got something super special planned for all you house heads out there. We're bringing together four deep house/techno players in the game to do things right for our 27th Late & Deep spectacular, at an all new location. The venue is two floors and has just revamped its soundsytem. This sounds like an equation for a serious party shindig. So, all you dance fiends out there, get prepared, it's a short work week and then the jam goes down Friday night. If you're not already anticipating it, listen to some of these mixes from our headliners to test the waters. Then, you'll know what's in store for you. The mixes speak for themselves.

Up first is a tasty treat from Throne Of Blood co-owner James Friedman:

Follow that up with an exclusive mix that Toronto's proud to be own Basic Soul Unit did for us:

And top it off with this beauty from Populette:

That should be enough to tide you over until the big night. So, now I'm sure I'll see all of you out Friday night supporting the Toronto good music scene.

Here's how to get in the know: Event Link

Peace,

Quick Jams

The Deep North Headquarters is always working on new concoctions and designs which aim to blow your mind. April is a month we have worked long and hard on in order to hit you with a 3-4 supercombo of heavily armed events with amazing international and local talent. Get in your wargear, we're about to unleash some deadly Weapons of Mass Dance-truction.

Excuse the lack of updates lately, but we have been busy in the studio banging out tunes and in the war room planning out big upcoming parties such as the LATE & DEEP ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY with none other than BUBBA and Nathan Barato as our super sick headlining guests.  Of course, you can always expect the home team to be present and ready to rock some jams on this one, as we hope that all of our residents will grace the decks as well for some pre- and post-headliner action on this exciting one year event.

Another big event which we have lined up is the first ever NEW SCHOOL DEEP event, which we have partnered up on with Boogie Inc., bringing Toronto a hot show with two major international headliners - - Kyle Hall and BUBBA - - alongside Toronto house and techno hero Basic Soul Unit.  Resident representation will be in the building, with opening sets from Boogie inc. residents the Sno-Men and our very own resident duo The Hermans, who just recently signed with Californian label 530Techno.

Below are some jams which we have been rocking out at the Deep North's Headquarters, a place which sometimes works around the clock and sometimes does not - - but always blasts tunes which are blistering hot.  The following releases by Zumo [Hypercolor], Re.You [Souvenir], Chris Fortier [530Techno], Maetrik [Cocoon] and Scott Kemp [Zoo:Technique] are all undeniably massive heaters, some of which are brand new, some of which are not.  Either way, get your steam on kids.

Zumo - H (Original Mix) >>> [BUY IT]

Re.You ft. Daniel Wilde - Falling (Original Mix) >>> [BUY IT]

Chris Fortier - Leadwave (Full On Mix) >>> [BUY IT]

Ready..Set..Action.

Just wanted to share a neat promo video made by the people over at Indie Live Onlinea website that will be launching in early 2012 and which will cover a number of killer shows in both North America & Europe.  The site hopes to bring the best parties to your home by providing visitors to the site with lots of action, including recorded footage of sets, sound recordings of entire sets as well as interviews, write-ups and reviews.  The Deep North was contacted by IndieLiveOnline's Lizzy S with the request that we allow them to film at some of our LATE & DEEP events.  We agreed.  And last month they came through L&D #7.

Take the next two minutes to sit back and take a peek at the following promo video.  The Indie Live crew  were able to film a big chunk of our jam, and a couple of short but killer frames of Basic Soul Unit and  I (Dick Diamonds) playing the event were included in this one - - along with footage of Boyz Noize, Justin Martin, Jamie Kidd, Poupon and Meech.  We wish the Indie Live Online crew all the best, and look forward to seeing them again this friday the 16th for LATE & DEEP #8 with Sacha Robotti, Nitin, the White Lions and thes rest of the Deep North Residents.  Get Weird!

DRM023: JAMIE KIDD

Deeply Rooted Mixtape No. 23 comes from Toronto's techno hero Jamie Kidd. Unlike these Techno deprived freaks, the zombies move a lot faster during one of Jamie's popular live sets.

Smile kids, its Friday!  Hard to believe the best day of the week has ambushed us again, it feels like this week has just blown right by in the blink of an eye.  This is a heavily loaded weekend here in Toronto, with tons of great shows on the agenda, all of which are listed on my favourite website Resident Advisor.  The Deep North will be personally involved in two hot jams this weekend: Thoughtless' Escape from Babylon party tonight and tomorrow we will be co-hosting Sean Roman's birthday party at a new venue for Deep Under Ground: Chinatown.  Check them both out!

Tonight's going to be a heavy one for the Deep North, as our resident DJ's Phantom Ambulance open up the Thoughtless Music monthly which includes none other than NYC's Brendon Moeller, Brandon Oliver (Curb Crawlers founder Brandon Sek's new alias ) and Toronto duo Metalogic.  The party is extra special this month as it is the EP release party for Metalogic's Hollow Strangers EP (TLM056) a fantastic album featuring the work of two techno monsters Dietrich Schoenemann and Brian Zentz.  The entire package is fucking nasty, but I personally think that the sub-filled low roller Volatiles takes the cake as my favourite bruiser of the bunch.

Metalogic, a duo made up of Toronto's Frederik Hatsav and local club hero Jamie Kidd, come back strong on this bone rattling EP following their remix of Ludwig Coenen for TLM022 and a number of lauded releases on labels such as Nachtstrom Schallplatten and Perc Trax.  Pick this album up on limited edition vinyl through decks.de or digitally on Juno, which includes an the exclusive track Volatiles.

TLM056: Metalogic - Hollow Strangers (Bryan Zentz Empty Vessel Dub)  >>> [BUY IT]

Jamie Kidd of Metalogic spinning one of Toronto's notorious Cherry Beach Parties this past summer.

Metalogic's Jamie Kidd is a well known figure in Toronto's -- recently booming -- underground techno scene.  As a resident dj for titan techno promoters Platform Entertainment, Jamie has played nearly everywhere alongside some of the worlds greatest producers including Richie Hawtin, Seth Troxler, Maceoplex, Matthew Dear, Claude VonStroke, Trentmoeller and many, many others.  This is an action packed month for the Toronto DJ, producer and jazz/funk band bassist, with releases as Metalogic and a solo remix on Toronto's Roots and Wings Music due out on November 21st.  Jamie Kidd is also co-headlining  our monthly party Late & Deep #7 next weekend with Basic Soul Unit, which we are super stoked about.

Michael & Ryan - Pills & Needles (Jamie Kidd Remix) >>> RW029 [Available Nov 21]

Listen to a couple of older tunes by Jamie Kidd's duo before you listen to his exclusive Deeply Rooted Mixtape, available only here at the Deep North.  The mix is a live recording of a wicked set Jamie played on October 1st, 2011 for the TechNoir Warehouse Party put on during Toronto's Nuit Blanche evening of art.

This next tune was not named after me, but I like to pretend that it was.

Metalogic - Diamonds by Roots and Wings Music

Perc - Mandrake (Metalogic Remix) by Metalogic

Perc & Metalogic - Bouncer by Metalogic

So here it is folks, Jamie Kidd's submission for our Deeply Rooted Mixtapes Series, the twenty-third installment in what is becomming a great catalogue of wonderful mixes.  Unfortunately, we do not have a tracklisting for this live mix as of yet, but keep checking back to see if we put it up in the future.  We would like to thank Jamie for this submission and all of the great contributions he has made to the techno-music scene in Toronto and beyond.  Look out for this guy in Europe during 2012, as he makes a move out there for a hopefully temporary stint in the worlds electronic music continent.  Make sure you come back brother, Toronto loves you!

DRM022: BASIC SOUL UNIT

DRM 022: BASIC SOUL UNIT .... Toronto, Canada.

We return this week with another top notch exclusive mix for our Deeply Rooted Mixtape Series, an attempt by us to gather together exclusive mixes by some of the worlds most talented producers and DJs, along with a number of locals who we personally think are the bee's knees.  If you check out the DRM Page you can see that so far we have been doing a decent job collecting exclusives from all over the globe, having amassed an impressive number of mixes from some of the worlds hottest up and coming producers and selectors.

This week is a special one for us here at the Deep North, because we have acquired an exclusive mix from one of Canada's most talented producers, a man who has been causing a buzz in Europe for quite some time now, yet remains largely unknown by many of his countrymen.  Stuart Li - - better known as producer Basic Soul Unit - - keeps a low profile here in Toronto, and the hyper-talented producer of tech house, deep house, techno and electronica likes to keep it that way.  The family man recently came back from a tour in the EU, and has stated that the plans for his return in 2012 are already well underway.  This is not suprising when one takes a quick look at the sheer number of quality releases he has had on well respected labels such as New Kanada, Thoughtless, Osgut Ton, Defected, Mule, Versatile and Creme Organization, to name but a few.  His most recent release, Deep Diving, just came out on Berlin-based label New Kanada and has 4 wicked originals on it.  This one is definitely worth a look - - and a purchase, if you ask me.  We posted some of his work earlier this year too, which you can check out here and grab at lower quality (128kbps) for those long rides to work or school.

We are super stoked on this hour-long mix from a local hero and fellow musician, and are honoured to have him headlining out next Late & Deep (#7) event this month alongside some other killer locals who have been making waves lately: Jamie Kidd (of Metalogic) and the Deep North's own Phantom Ambulance (Max the Fax and Max Lucas).

Here are a few tunes by BSU, which we snapped up from his Soundcloud page, check them out before you get into his awesome DRM mix.
