Rain bike. Rain like. Jack that New Jackson in the rain.
New Jacksonis the name. I stumbled upon this tune on YouTube and it is very, very nice. Makes me want to ride a bike in the rain through fog. Makes me want to lay around, maybe even on opium or something. It's nice, and it's available for purchase here through Pogo Recordings.
Lick or Click image for further info.Romain Rouffiac, (aka Remain) is probably not a name most North Americans have heard before. Not suprisingly, this was certainly my case until I happened to download the Concrete EP on the FAMILY Name imprint. I am not going to lie, I really downloaded the EP because of the cover art: some random mother fucker with a gnarly tattoo that, of all things, said "PEACE" on his forearm. I combed through the newly acquired releases. As usual, most of the assorted EPs I downloaded were crap or barely tolerable, until I touched this greasy little nugget of heat called Concrete - - a tune so good it made the tedious daily dig worth every agonizing minute. Equally hot were two of the remixes, one by Matt Walsh and the other by Matthus Raman.
Turns out that the head honcho of France's Meant Records makes more than one good song. In fact, the man makes a shit ton of wicked music, much of which can be heard by visiting his soundcloud. Remain makes awesome Techno, Tech House and Indy Dance music that plays a varying amount of the feild, music often displaying a touch of darkness that never fails to evoke strong emotional reactions among listeners - - often finding themselves nostalgically reflecting on past experiences which fit the soundtrack playing in their head.
While darkness and eerie mystery music are certainly salient characteristics of Romain's work, most of it is terriffic on the dancefloor, something I look forward to confirming this Friday when Romain plays a set for his Release party at Late & Deep #6, where we celebrate his up coming "La Rixe" EP, his first release on Canada's My Favorite Robot Records. The Official EP Party is fully supported by local MFR artists including My Favourite Robot,Nitin and Aaron Santos, and the artists will be fully backed by the 40Hz Soundsystem Crew. I have provided a number of Remain tracks for you to check out off his soundcloud, including the unreleased"La Rixe EP".
As a special exclusive bonus,we are also providing you with a free 128kbps download of the La Rixe remix by Toronto's Drumatix Six, courteousy of MFR, Remain and Drumatix Six - - only available here, at the Deep North.
OOOPS, YOU NEED TO UPDATE YOUR BROWSER or VIEW THIS POST FROM THE HOME PAGE TO STREAM THIS SONG PROPERLY!
More information can be found about Late & Deep #6on our newFanpage, which is also where daily contests happen for ticket giveaways to this special event on Friday. Also, you can read more about the event on Resident Advisor.
I was pretty stoked when I found this EP from Niederflur last night, called Teleservice. Dating back to 2001, Niederflur have released tons of great music and these three tracks are no different. This is some really cool techno/tech house but I'll admit that I'm not completely sold on "Vulkanistaor." Regardless, it's pretty sick.
Although the duo has been loyal to M_nus for their first eight or so years, they turned to other labels starting with 2009's Lumen, released on Archipel. This is their first release with Snork Enterprises.
It took me a while to finally post this one, so I would like to apologize to my good friend and french connect, producer Matthus Raman. It's incredible how busy things have become here at the Deep North's HQ. Anyways, a few weeks ago I posted a very strong remix Matthus did of the track Concrete by another French producer, Remain - - who, by the way, has an upcoming EP release on My Favourite RobotRecords, the party for which we will be hosting on October 21st here in Toronto. In case you missed my post on this excellent remix, here it is again.
Shortly after posting this remix, Matthus and I came into contact with one another, and it turns out that the upcoming techno producer and Family N.A.M.E. resident is an extremely nice guy. Without hesitation, Matthus said he would be happy to make us an exclusive mix. Well, he was he was not lying , because the mix was done within a couple of days. Matthus has released a few dark and dirty remixes under the Family Name imprint, including one of Elagua's track Cambia La Vida, and one of Clement Meyer's tune Piece by Piece - - both which can be heard below through YouTube.
Elagua - Cambia La Vida (Matthus Raman Remix) >>> [BUY IT]
Before I post the exclusive mix, I wanted to share some interesting information I got from Raman a week ago. Along with Loran ValdekandAndreas Tome, Raman has plans to launch his own label called Konflict Recordsin early 2012. The label will focus on pushing sounds that reflect the feelings and emotions that arise when people experience internal conflict - - a day-to-day occurance for not only him, but all of us. Now that is deep!
Enough with the chitter-chatter, let's get at-her. The tracklist can be found in the "lyrics" section of the ID3 tags on iTunes.
One more time, we are here. Here at the mouth of the DRM machine, waiting to see what new and exclusive mix we will recieve from the belly of the beast. I am stoked to share this next DRM mix with you guys because it comes from a young and talented DJ/producer known by two names: his formal, birth name, Brandon Sprouse, and his pseudonym "driip", which I happen to like quite a bit - - as it could mean a number of weird things, especially after delving into his dark, dirty and grimey taste in music.
Sprouse has often said that his signature sound is no-nonsense techno, the kind that keeps your head pointed downward in a dark room, freeing your mind from surrounding distractions while focusing it on the sounds that surround. Dark, bass heavy techno music is the passion of this up and coming Toronto Native, and you can expect to hear a lot more about the design student's ascent through the techno ranks - - especially if he remains focused on his plan to move to Berlin in order to pursue a full blown career in music.
Brandon can be found posting as a contributing member of the active Toronto blog-squad ElectroTO. Of course, that is when he is not producing sick music or embedding hot techno tracks on facebook for me to freak out over. Now that you have heard a couple of his productions, head on down to download his wonderfully crafted Deeply Rooted Mixtape for our blog. The tracklist can be found in the "lyrics" section of the Mp3's id3 tags.
We hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and that they are just as happy as we are that the Monday grind was not too horrible. Just wanted to let everyone know that we have had a couple of updates on the site which might be of interest to you, especially if you live in our hometown of Toronto.
We now have a two new sections dealing with upcoming events, which you can access on the right hand side of the blog. One of the sections relates to our monthly late night parties, aka the Late & Deep party series, which links directly to the official Late & Deep website. This site will keep you updated as to when our next Late & Deep event will be. The second section is titled Upcoming Events, and this page will let you know when you can catch one of our official parties, as well as other parties which we help organize or which one of our resident DJs will be playing at. Check them out!!
Here is a sweet Nu-Disco mix put together by our boy DJ Fame, who will be playing alongside Justin Tyce, Boots Boogieand myself Dick Diamonds. Check out the event on our Upcoming Events page, and also keep your eyes open for DJ Fame's upcoming exclusive DRM mix for the blog!!
Another exclusive? You know how it is here at The Deep North, we always share the goodies we get when we can. Our boy Sean Romanis on fire right now, developing dance floor monsters that in my opinion, are some of the baddest house heaters coming out of Canada at the moment. Recently Sean sent me a few tracks of his, many of which had recently been signed to killer labels such asHot Waves, , Act Natural, Assemblyand My Favourite Robot. While all the tracks were serious heaters, my very favourite was one called Quirks, which he produced with Jeff Rhodes.
SEAN ROMAN & JEFF RHODES - QUIRKS .......... Download below.
While the -- suprisingly -- unsigned song is very simple, the vocal loop and the bassline werre destined to be together, combining to help create an infectiously catchy track that has me shaking without every day unless I get my fix - - a quirky dose on a phat set of speakers.
Sean told me at Late & Deep IIIthis past weekend that I could put it up on the blog as an exclusive to share with the readership - - so here I am. While I am stoked and honoured to share it with the world via the Deep North, I am only going to share the 128kbps version. Why? Simply because I think that Sean should hold out until someone realizes that this track is a wicked party jam that needs to be released. In the meantime, here is the 128kbps version to get y'all excited. Someone pick this one up please.
You can catch Sean Roman alongside DR.DVS, Pavel Elkin and myself Dick Diamonds, this Friday night at Augusta House for Nevernight - - a FREE jam I am putting together for fun. It's always a good time seeing sean rip it up, so reach out if you want to hear some Deep House and Techno treats from this guy. Check out the details for this event on Resident Advisor.
A very busy summer of DJing, cruising the side streets of Toronto and selling longboards at the shop have made it difficult for me to post on the blog, but I have found three hot tunes to share in this months three in three.
Since our internet situation has been less than optimal (non-existant) until now, we have been having some trouble with our day to day transactions, one of which has been getting our good old pal Neoteric's Deeply Rooted Mixtape up on the blog so that we could all enjoy this delicious bag of candied tunage together.
Neoteric, who is originally from Canada's West coast, moved out to Europe in order to kick his music career into high gear. The move has put Neoteric amongst some of the worlds finest electronic producers and our boy is constantly on that hustle and grind, day in and day out -- evidenced by some of the projects he has been working on.
In mid July Neo put out a gnarly followup to his electro house compilation, Turned On Volume 1, through Discobelle. While the first volume in the compilation series was decidedly electro house, the followup has moved a bit more towards the techier side of house music, a flavourful mix of sweet electronica which we are loving over here at the Deep North.
Take small bite out of this remix of "How Deep Is Your Love" by Neoteric & Wax Motif -- a savory house biscuit remix -- and then tell us you don't want to devour the whole thing. I bet you can't. Download this beautiful bit from discobelle or XLR8TR for free.
The Rapture - How Deep Is Your Love (Neoteric & Wax Motif Remix) >>> [Free Download]
Earlier in the year Neoteric & Wax Motif came together with Southern Fried to put forth the Go Deep EP, which includes remixes of the club banger by Supabeatz, Keith, Maxxi Soundsystem as well as local Toronto producer Gingy. I really like the original mix, but I think Maxxi's version gives it a good run for it's money in my opinion, followed by the version put together by our fellow Torontonian Gingy.

As you can see, this guy likes to put in work. It was no suprise to me that Neo has a very hard time finding a moment to breath in between putting together his White Light and unlisted mixes, doing radio shows for Scion, working as an A&R for Dubsided Records and touring the European continent to bang out shows for big crowds. After being told that a mix would be difficult to get from him a couple of times, I had pretty much given up - - until one day a few months ago Neo hit me up saying that he had not forgotten us, and that he would have a Deep House mix put together exclusively for the blog.
So here it is folks, a Deep & Delicious mix by my man Neoteric straight out of Berlin, a place which undoubtedly influenced his selections and desire to focus a bit more on the deeper side of house, a side which i wish was as popular here in Canada as it is on the European continent. Now, let's dig into this hearty melange of deep, dirty tracks.

Not going to say much about this new sizzling hot tune by Martyncalled Masks other than: WOAH.
Masks. Aptly named, the track - - along with the entire August 2nd Masks/Viper release on Brainfeeder - - is a departure from Martyn's usual production sphere centered on bass music. taking listeners into the spheres of techno/house/electronica, something that may be unfamiliar or, completely unknown to some of the man's fans and followers.
We love the deep, greasy groove you get with this song, especially our blog-mate Book, but be sure to let us know what you think by leaving a comment to this post!!
Dig right on in, don't be shy and please leave a comment if you like the track. Thanks go out to our boy Terror Tone of Stacked Records for tuning me into this one a couple of weeks ago.
